Finnish National Coalition Party Tuesday selected Alexander Stubb to replace Ilkka Kanerva as the foreign minister, said Finnish Foreign Ministry in its official website.
The intention is for the new foreign minister to be appointed during the presidential session on April 4.
Current Finnish Foreign Minister Kanerva was on sick leave on Tuesday and his program had been canceled, said it, adding that Kanervae will not attend the NATO Summit to be held on April 2-3 in Bucharest, Romania.
The National Coalition party confirmed Tuesday it had chosen Stubb, 40, a member of the European Parliament since 2004, to replace Kanerva as foreign minister.
The decision came the day a magazine published the contents of a string of text messages sent by Kanerva to an erotic dancer he met on a plane in January. Local media said Kanerva who is 60-year-old sent about 200 messages to the 29-year-old dancer.
In March the dancer sold the minister's messages to the gossip magazine Hymy and caused uproar in Finland.
