Bulgaria's opposition is expected to file Thursday a non-confidence vote against the ruling coalition due to the "an unprecedented involvement of the government with organized crime," local press reported Wednesday.

The news emerged after a Wednesday meeting of representatives of all opposition formations, where the current scandals in the Interior Ministry have been discussed.

The nationalist Ataka party, the right-wing Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB), United Democratic Forces (UDF), Bulgarian New Democracy (BND) and Bulgarian People's Union (BPU) hope to gather the signatures needed to take the important step.

The rightists said the vote is to reveal the reasons that prevent the Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev from throwing the responsibility for the recent brawls at the Interior Minister Rumen Petkov.

The consultations of the opposition parties followed a Tuesday meeting of the leadership of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), the dominant party in the ruling coalition, over the developments of the scandals at the Interior Ministry in the recent weeks, including the arrest of a deputy chief of the organized crime service over leaking police information to suspected felons, the subsequent arrest of a former Interior Ministry chief secretary over unlawful use of special surveillance means and a statement by the parliamentary internal security committee last week saying that it suspects the Interior Ministry leadership of criminal action.

As a result, the Interior Ministry chief secretary has taken a leave for the duration of a probe into the matter and the interior minister has been ordered to prepare a report into his ministry's work and problems for the past 18 years.

The motion needs 48 signatures to get the procedure started and DSB's Vesselin Metodiev expects it to be submitted to the parliamentary records office on Thursday.

That is to be the fifth non-confidence vote that the government faces since the beginning of its ruling. The most recent one over the corruption in the government was put to the vote on February 22 and failed.
