Portugal Tuesday reaffirmed its close cooperation with Spain in fighting the Basque separatist group ETA after a European Police (Europol) report indicated an "abnormal increase" in the group's activities in Portugal.
Portugal's Internal Administration Minister Rui Pereira said his country did monitor ETA's movements in Portugal.
Portugal and Spain have decided to create concerted investigation teams to monitor ETA's activities in the two countries.
Europol said in its report released in Brussels that ETA's activities in Portugal include renting vehicles to carry out attacks in Spain.
ETA (Euskadi Ta Askatasuna or Basque Homeland and Freedom), listed by the European Union as an armed terrorist group, has killed more than 850 people since the late 1960s in its battle to create an independent Basque homeland in northern Spain and southwestern France. Source:Xinhua
