Dutch consumers spent 500 million euros (785 million U.S. dollars) on organic products in 2007, 13 percent more than during the previous year, local press reported Wednesday.
Arie van den Brand, secretary of the organization Biologica, said that sales of organic eggs and meat grew by more than 20 percent last year compared to 2006, Radio Netherlands reported.
In the Netherlands, the demand for organic products still exceeds the supply. Around 2 percent of food products sold in the country are organic.
In Denmark, which takes the lead in the production of organic products in Europe, the figure is five percent. Source:Xinhua
