Russia's outgoing President Vladimir Putin will meet later this week with Italian prime minister-to-be Silvio Berlusconi, whose center-right coalition has won the country's general election, a Kremlin official said Tuesday.
The meeting is slated for April 17-18, following Putin's visit to Libya, Interfax news agency quoted the president's press secretary Alexei Gromov as saying.
"The agenda will include Russian-Italian cooperation and prospects for its development," Gromov said.
Berlusconi's bloc took 168 seats in the Senate compared with 130 for the center-left group led by his main rival, former Rome mayor Walter Veltroni, propelling him to a third term as Italy's premier.
Putin is to step down from his post on May 7, but he has promised to take on the new role of prime minister under his successor Dmitry Medvedev's presidency.
