Germany, Egypt to set up steering committee to boost ties |

Germany and Egypt agreed on Tuesday to establish a steering committee to discuss ways to boost their relations, the German foreign ministry said.
German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Abul Gheit agreed on setting up the committee in a telephone conversation ahead of a visit to Berlin by Egyptian President Hosny Mubarak.
The steering committee is due to meet annually in Germany and Egypt alternately to identify areas of closer cooperation between the two countries, a statement of the German foreign ministry said.
"Egypt is an important and valued partner of Germany in the Middle East and its third largest export market in the Arab world," the statement said.
Mubarak, who is visiting France on Tuesday, to due to visit Germany to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel and other officials on Wednesday.
