The steering committee is due to meet annually in Germany and Egypt alternately to identify areas of closer cooperation between the two countries, a statement of the German foreign ministry said.

"Egypt is an important and valued partner of Germany in the Middle East and its third largest export market in the Arab world," the statement said.
