Russia will launch a carrier rocket on Thursday to send an Israeli communication satellite into space, news agencies reported on Wednesday.
Russia has been preparing for the launch, slated for 9:00 a.m. Moscow time (0500 GMT), of the modified Zenit-3SLB rocket with the Israeli AMOS-3 satellite on board from the Baikonur space center in Kazakhstan since last October, RIA Novosti cited a spokesperson for Russia's Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) as saying.
The satellite, worth some 170 million U.S. dollars, will join another two satellites to increase capacity, expand coverage, and enhance direct cross-Atlantic links connecting the Mideast to Europe and the U.S. East Coast, RIA said.
