Albanian Foreign Minister Lulzim Basha denied on Wednesday Serb civilians were ever killed in Albania for their organs near the end of the 1999 Kosovo war.
In her recently published memoirs, former UN war crimes prosecutor Carla Del Ponte claimed that in the closing days of the Kosovo conflict, hundreds of civilians were allegedly kidnapped by Kosovo Liberation Army guerrillas and transported to neighboring Albania.
The book, "The Hunt: Me and the War Criminals," said that dozens of Serb civilians were killed and their organs had been harvested to be sold abroad. The victims included Serbs, Russians, and at least one Albanian.
Basha denounced the allegations as "fabrications and absurdities," saying they never existed and were intended to smear the image of Kosovo and Albania.
"We are sorry that a former international chief prosecutor ... should write a book full of inventions and absurdities which are not only immoral but also libelous," Basha said.
