Two deputy interior ministers of Bulgaria have submitted their resignations to the cabinet, following the resignation of their head Rumen Petkov 10 days ago, the Interior Ministry announced Wednesday.
Petkov resigned last week after the arrest of two high-ranking police officials, accused of abuse of power and contacts with suspected crime bosses.
"I bring the resignation papers in my pocket. I am ready to quit as I am part of the team that has recently ruled the Interior," Kamen Penkov, one of the two deputy ministers, said in a statement last week.
He has also expressed his willingness to take responsibility in the current situation.
The other deputy minister, Tsonko Kirov, has not made clear why he made the decision.
The leader of the Socialist Party in parliament, Mihail Mikov, was named new interior minister to replace Petkov
