One of Hungary's coalition parties, the Free Democrats, Sunday decided to quit the ruling coalition from April 30.
The party made the decision at an extraordinary meeting, with 434 votes for leaving the coalition government, 53 voting against and 32 abstentions.
Free Democrats leader Janos Koka said the party will be constructive opposition and does not want an early parliamentary election.
The party announced in late March that it would withdraw its ministers and state secretaries from the government after Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany sacked the party's Health Minister Agnes Horvath.
The Socialists will operate as a minority government until the next elections scheduled for 2010.
A survey published Friday showed the majority of voters believed a minority government would not offer the right solutions for Hungary and half of the voters believed the Socialists would not be able to maintain a minority government until the next vote in 2010.
