The Spanish government said on Tuesday that it would contribute 500,000 euros (775,000 U.S. dollars) to the World Food Program to help cyclone-hit Myanmar.

The announcement was made during a meeting at Spain's International Cooperation Agency for Development (AECID) on the situation in Myanmar which was hit by Tropical cyclone Nargis recently.

What most urgently needed in Myanmar included blankets, drinking water and food, according to reports from Spain's embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, and from some non-governmental organizations.

The AECID said that it has been paying a close attention to the victims' needs which have been reported by the Spanish embassy in Bangkok ever since the cyclone hit the Asian country.

The AECID also said it has kept in touch with many other international groups for further help.

Tropical cyclone Nargis, which developed over the Bay of Bengal, ripped through Myanmar's five divisions and states on May 2, leaving at least 22,500 people dead and more than 41,000 others missing.
