Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan said Friday that his country has not yet decided to join the "Unity for the Mediterranean," the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.
Babacan made the remarks here in a joint press conference with the visiting Gordan Jandrokovic, the Croatian Foreign Minister.
Asked whether Turkey would attend the meeting of the "Unity for the Mediterranean" on July 13, Babacan said that Turkey has not yet made a decision to join the unity.
"However, we are now making its assessments of the Unity for the Mediterranean in a positive perspective. We will attend the meeting on July 13 in France if we decide to join the club," Babacan said, adding that Turkey did not want a shadow to be cast over its relations with France.
Ankara will only go in case it joins the union, Babacan told the reporters. The official was angry about attempts to bloc Turkey's accession to the EU, saying they are against EU's principles.
For his part, Jandrokovic said that his country expected Turkey to complete its EU accession process successfully.
"Croatia closely watched the developments regarding Turkey's EU bid. We hope that Turkey will successfully complete such process," he said.
Jandrokovic also said that each country's route to EU, conditions and interests were different. "Speed and quality were two important factors in a candidate country's membership process." Source: Xinhua
