Russian President Dmitry Medvedev congratulated the heads of state and government of African countries on the Africa Day, Itar-Tass reported on Sunday.
"We note with satisfaction that African countries make increasingly noticeable contribution to resolving key problems of our time over the past few years," Medvedev said in a congratulation letter, according to the Kremlin.
"They play a constructive role in strengthening global partnership in the interests of building a just and multi-polar world and supremacy of international law," the Russian head of state said.
"Russia hails the efforts of African countries in forming the foundations of collective security, including creation of their own peacekeeping potential," he said, speaking highly of African states' strive in deepening political and economic integration.
Moscow will participate actively in tackling issues concerning Africa, including within the United Nations and the Group of Eight, he said.
Sunday marks the 45th anniversary of the African Union, now known as the Africa Day initiated by the United Nations.
