German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said on Tuesday that Iran should be given more time pressure to resolve outstanding concerns over its nuclear activities.
"Open questions remain, where we have to push for an answer with more time pressure," said Steinmeier in reaction to a new report released by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Monday.
Steinmeier told NATO's parliamentary assembly meeting Tuesday in Berlin that the European Union is expected to deliver a renewed incentive package in a couple of weeks.
"The ball is in the Iranians' court," he said. "Either it is accepted and we get reasonable answers to our questions, or talks aimed at a diplomatic solution would be further delayed."
"The alternative would then be increased international pressure, including through the UN Security Council," Steinmeier said.
According to media reports, an IAEA report said Monday Iran continues to defy demands to suspend uranium enrichment and has yet to disprove allegations that it is pursuing nuclear power for military use. However, Iran insisted that it has answered all questions from the IAEA.
