Romanian Prime Minister Calin Popescu-Tariceanu on Wednesday asked International Olympic Committee (IOC) chief Jacques Rogge for support in his country's bid to host the 2013 winter European Youth Olympic Festival and the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
"I am asking IOC head Jacques Rogge for support to organize in Romania in 2013 the winter Olympic Festival for Youth, and in 2022the Winter Olympic Games," Tariceanu said at the opening of the "Sydney 2000" Olympic Complex.
Romanian President Traian Basescu and the visiting IOC chief attended the opening ceremony of the complex, located in the city of Izvorani, some 30 km north of the capital Bucharest.
Built under the initiative of former Romanian tennis player Ion Tiriac and the country's Olympic Committee President Octavian Morariu, the complex features a gym hall, tennis courts, a football field, a rugby field, an athletics track, as well as accommodation and food supply facilities.
