The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has confirmed it will take part in a power supply project along the Russian Federation-DPRK-South Korea route, the head of Russia's industrial safety watchdog told the ninth Russian-Korean forum here on Thursday.

"The DPRK side confirmed its intention to participate in implementing the RF-DPRK-South Korea project and to cooperate with South Korea through the Russian side at tripartite negotiations," Konstantin Pulikovsky, the chief of Rostekhnadzor (Federal Service for Supervision of Environment, Technology and Nuclear Management),was quoted by the Itar-Tass news agency as saying.

The project supports joint development studies in the power industry by Russia, DPRK and South Korea, including construction of power transmission lines, Pulikovsky said.

A DPRK ministry has arrived at a preliminary agreement on building a power transmission line across the country. Meanwhile, South Korea regards the power export project as promising and economically substantiated.

Russian energy giant Gazprom and South Korean gas corporation Kogas have agreed to set up a working group on gas supplies to South Korea, the Rostekhnadzor head added.
