Russian President Dmitry Medvedev talked to his Georgian counterpart Mikheil Saakashvili via phone about a recent spat over the deployment of Russian railroad troops in Georgia's breakaway region of Abkhazia, the Kremlin said.
Medvedev made necessary clarifications on the issue during the phone conversation, the RIA Novosti news agency reported, citing official sources.
Medvedev and Saakashvili agreed to resume discussions on the maintenance of regional peace and stability, as well as specific issues of Russian-Georgian cooperation on the sidelines of an economic forum in St Petersburg on June 6-8.
Georgia summoned Russian Ambassador Vyacheslav Kovalenko Mondayand presented an official protest note to him over Russia's deployment of railroad troops to Abkhazia on May 31.
Georgia's breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia have long been a source of tension between Russia and Georgia.
