Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has signed a decree on measures to reduce the economy's energy intensity by at least 40 percent from the level in 2007 by 2020, the Kremlin said on Wednesday.
The president urged the government to take measures in 2008-2009 to increase the energy and environmental efficiency of such industries as power industry, construction, housing and utilities, and transport.
"Efficient and environmentally conscious use of energy and energy resources" is vital for reducing energy intensity, Medvedev was quoted by the RIA Novosti news agency as saying.
