The European Commission issued an alert to all European Union (EU) member states on Wednesday after an incident at a nuclear plant in Slovenia.

The commission received information from the Slovenian authorities earlier on Wednesday that a loss of coolant has occurred at the Krsko nuclear power plant in southwestern Slovenia.

The nuclear plant has been completely shut down and there was no discharge to the environment, said the commission, the executive body of the EU.

The situation at the nuclear plant is fully under control, it said.
