Poland will allow Russian officers access to planned bases of the U.S. missile defense system on its territory, Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said on Thursday.
"Poland will allow inspections and perhaps industrial monitoring but is against permanent presence of Russian inspectors," Sikorski said in an interview for daily Gazieta.
"Poland would like to assure Russia that it will take into account its expectations with regard to confidence-building solutions," the Polish foreign minister said.
Poland and the U.S. are in talks on the installation in Poland of a U.S. missile defense system. Russia, which claims the system could endanger its safety, has demanded permanent access to the installation by its inspectors.
