Greek Minister of State Theodoros Roussopoulos announced on Monday evening the measures decided by the government for the regions affected by Sunday's earthquake, after a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis on earthquake relief,

Roussopoulos said that 3,000 euros will be provided for people whose homes either collapsed or have to be demolished or can be repaired but are uninhabitable, to help them face their immediate needs.

The amount of 10,000 euros will also be given for household equipment for those whose homes either collapsed or have to be demolished. In addition, the state will shoulder the expenditures for the reconstruction or repairing of homes. Regardless of whether the homes collapsed, will be demolished or are considered repairable.

The Finance Ministry will soon be announcing measures for businesses in earthquake-stricken regions, similar to those applied in wildfire-stricken regions in the summer.

Roussopoulos further said that the Interior Ministry has granted special aid amounting to 200,000 euros to the prefectures of Achaia and Ilia and 150,000 euros to earthquake-stricken municipalities.

The minister also said that the Earthquake Relief Service will have inspected all the homes by noon on Wednesday, which means that as of Thursday it will be able to provide verifications to enable the payment of benefits to begin.
