Former Bosnian Serb police commander Stojan Zupljanin, one of the wartime fugitives most wanted by the UN war crimes tribunal, was arrested on Wednesday, local media reported.
Zupljanin, one of the four remaining Bosnian Serb war crime fugitives most wanted by the Hague-based UN war crimes tribunal, was arrested near Belgrade, local B92 news network reported.
War Crimes Prosecution spokesman Bruno Vekaric has confirmed the arrest of Zupljanin who will soon be sent to the UN tribunal for trial.
The former Bosnian Serb police commander during the 1992-95 civil war was charged with crimes against humanity for killing Muslims and Croats.
Other fugitives on the run are the wartime Bosnian Serb political leader Radovan Karadzic, his army commander General Ratko Mladic and Serb rebel leader in Croatia, Goran Hadzic.
Their arrests are one of the key conditions for Serbia's access to the European Union. A pre-entry accord signed between Serbia and the EU on April 29 will not be implemented unless Belgrade fully cooperates with the UN tribunal, said EU officials.
