The French government has pledged to focus more on intelligence concerning national defense and security and will establish a national committee for the purpose, according to information from the French presidential office on Monday.
According to the "White Book on Defense and Homeland Security" to be released soon, the committee will be led by the French president and be in charge of intelligence work both at home and abroad.
The document calls for increased emphasis on human resources-related intelligence, enrollment of professionals, staff training, and the development of high-tech intelligence-gathering methods.
It also proposed the government should increase investment in the exploration of outer space.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy will present the document to military and security officials on Tuesday.
A special committee was appointed by Sarkozy last July, in charge of analyzing the security threats facing France in the new era and drawing up a relevant national defense and security strategy.
The paper is to be discussed in parliament later this month. Source:Xinhua
