The German government will provide 70 million euros (110 million U.S. dollars) for reconstruction work in Afghanistan next year, Germany's Development Minister Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul said Wednesday after talks with visiting Afghan ministers.
The fund is part of the 420 million euros from 2008 to 2010 promised by Germany at the donor conference on Afghanistan held in Paris last week.
The people of Afghanistan can count on Germany, which will continue to act as a reliable partner in the country's reconstruction and development, said Wieczorek-Zeul.
Afghan Finance Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Ahadi, Education Minister Mohamad Hanif Atmar and Rural Development Minister Ehsan Zia visited Germany this week for talks with German officials on the food situation in Afghanistan in the context of the world food price hike, German news agency DPA reported.
The German development and foreign ministries have provided 140million euros (220 million dollars) in aid to Afghanistan this year, for facilities including energy supply, drinking water, basic education and police training.
