Montenegro and Slovenia signed on Wednesday an agreement on cooperation in science and technology at Montenegro's seaside resort of Budva.

The agreement will boost the already successful cooperation between the countries by promoting joint research projects and more cooperation in EU projects, the Slovenian Education Ministry said in a statement.

Slovenian Higher Education, Science and Technology Minister Mojca Kucler Dolinar signed the agreement with her Montenegrin counterpart Sreten Skuletic on the sidelines of a forum dubbed Science, Higher Education and Innovation.

Kucler Dolinar said that in 2009 both ministries would publish calls for applications for bilateral research projects.

So far the cooperation in science and technology between the countries was based on an agreement from 2002. Since 2004 the two countries carried out 16 joint projects, including the successful cooperation in the area of information sciences.

The Slovenian minister said that the renovation of a national Cooperative Online Bibliographic System and Services (Cobiss) in Montenegro's Cetinje, which was opened on Tuesday, was also a result of this cooperation.
