Macedonia's ruling party VMRO-DPMNE and an ethnic Albanian party agreed late Friday to form a new government, local media reported Saturday.
The central committees of the VMRO-DPMNE, led by Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, and the Democratic Union for Integration, led by Ali Ahmeti, have endorsed the agreement.
But it is still unknown what kind of posts the ethnic Albanian party will hold in the new government, Macedonia's official news agency MIA reported.
In Macedonia's June 1 general elections, Gruevksi's VMRO-DPMNE won a landslide victory with 63 seats in the 120-seat parliament.
But he needs to find an ethnic Albanian party for co-governing, as stipulated by the tradition. Ethnic Albanians account for a quarter of Macedonia's 2.1 million people.
The Democratic Union for Integration gained 18 seats, as opposed to 11 seats won by its bitter rival, the Democratic Party of Albanians. Source: Xinhua
