A Russian private killed himself after shooting dead three fellow soldiers and injuring another on Monday at a firing range in Russia's Far East, RIA Novosti news agency reported.
The incident occurred in the village of Sergeyevka in the Primorye Territory, when the soldier, V. Denis, armed with an assault rifle left the post he was guarding, a Defense Ministry spokesman said.
"Four contract servicemen found the private, who had left his post and tried to stop him," he said. Three of them died at the scene while the fourth was taken to the nearest hospital.
The private turned the rifle on himself shortly after he had shot the soldiers, said the spokesman.
A total of 442 Russian soldiers died in non-combat incidents last year, RIA said.
