A moderate earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale hit the region of the Sea of Okhotsk on Wednesday night, the Itar-Tass news agency reported Thursday.

The earthquake occurred at 16:39 Moscow time (1239 GMT), the report said. The epicenter was at a depth of about 280 kms under the seabed, 220 kms northwest of the Simushir island.

Tremors were felt in the far eastern region of Sakhalinskaya. No casualties, damage or threat of tsunami was reported.
