Cyprus supports the implementation of the UN resolutions as regards the occupation by Israel of Arab lands, the freedom of the Golan Heights and the creation of a Palestinian state, Cyprus President Demetris Christofias said in Nicosia on Sunday.

According to Cyrpus News Agency, Christofias made the remarks after a meeting with Syrian President Bachar Al Assad, which lasted thirty minutes.

The Cyprus president also expressed supports of his country on the recognition of the Israeli state by the Palestinians after the solution of the problem.

Asked about the illegal sea routes conducted between Latakia and the occupied port of Famagusta, Syrian President Assad said that "we discussed this issue with the Cyprus part and the Turkish part frankly and we talked about the relation that has been partly deteriorated between Cyprus and Syria during the last three years."

Assad invited Cyprus President Christofias to visit Syria as soon as possible to discuss this issue and the other issues related to the relations between the two countries.
