A 6.3-magnitude earthquake hit off the Rhodes island in southeast Greece early Tuesday, killing one woman, according to local authorities.
The Athens Geodynamic Institute said the quake occurred at 6:26 a.m. (0326 GMT) about 70 km south of the island in the Aegean sea, at a depth of about 13 km.
The quake was also felt on the islands of Santorini and Grete, it said.
The US Geological Survey said earlier the quake measured 6.4 at a depth of 68 km.
"One woman was killed after she tripped and hit her head as she tried to leave her house in a panic when the earthquake struck," said Panagiotis Efstathiou, head of the National Health Operations Centre.
"It is an unfortunate event, but apart from that, there have been no other injuries reported." said the official.
So far, no major damage was reported to any of the buildings or historical sites on the island. Source:Xinhua
