Cast members of the London 2012 team who will perform at the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games visited Wembley Stadium in west London Monday to get a flavor of what it is like to perform in Beijing's National Stadium, known as the Bird's Nest.
The 20 or so dancers walked all the way from the turf pitch in the center up to the top of the stadium, in an attempt to get a feeling of what it will be like at the Beijing ceremony on Aug. 24.
"The visit to Wembley Stadium is a vital part of our rehearsal process," said Handover Ceremony Director Stephen Powell. Wembley Stadium, the site of the 14th Olympic Games in 1948, was chosen because of its similar capacity to Beijing's Bird's Nest of 91,000people.
Powell said the objective of the tour is to give the cast a sense of scale and feeling of what it might be like walking on to the field in a beautiful and iconic stadium.
He said that it would also remind the team that they are a part of a major sporting as well as a major cultural event, which is expected to be watched by 1.5 billion people worldwide.
Even though their show at the Beijing Games remains a secret, the dancers did give ballet and street-dance like poses during the media photo call at Wembley.
The cast will leave for Beijing early in the second week of August and stay until the closing ceremony of the Paralympic Games, when they will give another show for the handover ceremony. Source:Xinhua
