Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko and his U.S. counterpart George W. Bush talked over phone on Thursday to discuss situations in Georgia, the Ukrainian presidential office said in a statement.

"The talk focuses on Georgian situations, and measures that need to be taken to halt the conflict," said the statement.

Yushchenko stressed the importance of U.S. position on supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.

"The U.S. president was grateful for the efforts made by Ukraine, which contributed to the ceasefire, and also for Ukraine's aid to Georgia," said the statement.

Yushchenko in turn thanked Bush for U.S. humanitarian aid to the victims of the recent flooding in Ukraine.
