A car exploded in southern Turkish province of Mersin on Tuesday, killing the suicide bomber and injuring 12 police officers, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.
The number of policemen who were injured in the blast was earlier reported as nine.
The explosion occurred when police stopped a white car which they had been following after a tip off on Adana-Mersin motorway, according to the report.
It added the person in the car caused the blast after realizing he would be caught and he died on the spot.
Anatolia news agency quoted Mersin Governor Huseyin Aksoy as saying, "we are considering the possibility of a suicide bomber," adding that the investigation into the blast was underway.
The car was being trailed by the police who received intelligence that a suicide bomber was planning for an attack in Mersin, the report said.
