Russian troops and tanks pulled out from the strategically important city of Gori on Friday, Georgian National Security Council Secretary Alexander Lomaya said.

Lomaya's announcement came as Russia said it had completed its troop withdrawal from Georgia.

"The withdrawal of the Russian forces and units has gone by without incident and was completed by 7:50 p.m. Moscow time (1550 GMT), as planned," Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying.
