Two persons died and 25 others were injured on Friday when a train derailed in the north of Portugal, the National Authority for Civil Protection said.
A Portuguese woman and a child died in the accident while 25 others were injured, with 10 of them in serious condition. The injured had been taken to a nearby hospital.
The train, with 47 passengers aboard, was traveling from Mirandela to the tourist resort of Tua in northern Portugal, when it derailed about 1 km from Brunheda station Friday morning.
Fortunately, the derailed train did not fall into a nearby river, but halted on the slope of a hill, avoiding greater casualties.
The causes of the accident are still unknown, but the operator allegedly heard a great noise before the derailment.
This is the third accident on the same railroad this year. Two were injured in the previous two accidents. Source: Xinhua
