Switzerland is the country most plagued by junk email, according to the Swiss "Morning News" report published on August 24. In July this year, 84.2 percent of email in Switzerland is junk email.
Reports said that the reason Switzerland attracts the most hackers is that the country is home to a number of world famous banks, financial companies and pharmaceutical companies. In addition, the number of broadband Internet users in Switzerland is huge, providing a lucrative junk email market for hackers. By sending a large number of junk emails, hackers steal private confidential information, particularly Internet banking transaction information.
"Morning News" pointed out that since March this year, the Swiss information security record and analysis centre has issued a total of nine network security alerts to remind Internet users to guard against fake Swiss banking group messages sent by hackers. Once the email is opened, the user's computer will be infected with a virus; and when users conduct Internet banking transactions, the virus can intercept user's confidential information.
It is said that once such junk email is identified, the Swiss government departments responsible for information security will immediately notify the bank. Switzerland's junk email attacks mostly come from abroad. The Swiss police has cooperated with other countries to investigate and arrest a number of hackers.
According to the latest statistical data from the New York-based network security company MessageLabs, among all emails in countries around the world, the average ratio of junk email reaches 75.1%.
