Sixty six percent of adult residents of Slupsk (Pomorskie province) and Slupsk county negatively assess the Polish government decision to install elements of the U.S. anti-missile shield near Redzikowo, indicateda PBS DGA poll on Wednesday.
Redzikowo, located in Northwestern Slupsk province, is the locality near which 10 ground base interceptors are to be installed under a Polish-U.S. shield deal.
Citing the result of the poll, Polish news agency PAP reported the number of shield opponents rose by 7 percentage points from the March 17 survey (from 59.7 percent).
Thirty percent supported the government plan, down from 30.7 percent from survey run on March 17. Four percent had no opinion against 9.6 percent on March 17.
According to 86 percent of respondents Slupsk region should receive more investments as compensation for the location of a U.S. base there, 69 percent believe the government should talk to the province residents about the shield and 74 percent said the government information policy was poor.
The poll was run on August 22-25 on a representative 500-stronggroup of Slupsk residents.
