Austria will participate in the Georgia mission of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the Austrian Foreign Ministry's spokesman Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal said Wednesday.
According to the Austrian News Agency (APA), Austria had nominated a staff member for this OSCE mission. However, there were still technical problems, which made it unclear when the OSCE would send this employee to the mission region.
The OSCE member states had agreed on August 19 to send up to 100 additional monitors to Georgia and it would firstly send 20 monitors there. Austria has already sent three soldiers to the Georgian province Abkhazia under the framework of UN observer mission.
The governments of Switzerland and Germany had decided on Wednesday too to take part in the OSCE mission. The Swiss government authorized its Defense Ministry to send up to eight military monitors there and Germany would send two additional staff members to Georgia.
