The United States is ready to give Georgia all possible assistance, which can include military assistance, a U.S. State Department official said on Thursday.

According to the Hungarian News Agency MTI, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Matthew J. Bryza expressed the readiness when answering MTI's questions via videoconference.

"it is conceivable" that the United States will offer Georgia military assistance in the near future, Bryza said. Georgia has the right to get any kind of assistance from the United States, he added.

Bryza said he thought it unlikely that Russia would retaliate by limiting shipments of energy to Europe.
