Russian Ambassador to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Anwar Asimow denied Thursday the accusation from Georgian Foreign Minister Eka Tkeschelaschwili that Russia would encroach Ukraine.
Asimow emphasized that "Russia would not threaten anyone," pointing out that "is not our policy."
He said that Russia would withdraw its troops from the buffering zone of South Ossetia and Abkhazia under the precondition that no more threats to the residents there.
"It is clear for us that we must leave the territory sooner or later," said Asimow, stressing that the Russian troops are still staying there only for protecting the residents in those regions.
He at the same time criticized some countries "double standards" on the Georgia conflicts, saying that the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia was a reality and those two regions would be no longer returned to Georgia, and "the process is irreversible."
Georgian Foreign Minister Eka Tkeschelaschwili said earlier the same day on the special meeting of the OSCE that Russia entered Georgia's territory by using force. She warned of a "domino effect," saying that "this danger could also happen in Ukraine."
