Austria started the electoral campaign on Friday, a month before the election scheduled for Sept.28.

Besides the five large parliament parties, which are SPOe, OeVP, Green, FPOe and BZOe, candidates from other small parties such as LIF, KPOe, will also be strong rivals in the electoral campaign. Some smaller parties will only participate in the campaign in some provinces of Austria.

The current Austrian coalition government was elected in 2006 and is consisted of Austrian People's Party (OeVP) and Austrian Social Democratic Party (SPOe). However, after the establishment of the coalition, the two parties often had contradictories on some issues, which resulted in delay or even impossibility to implement the on-going reforms.

In recent months, SPOe started interior personnel changes and proposed referendum for all future possible amendments of the EU Treaty, which the OeVP was deeply dissatisfied with and took it as the main reason of the collapse of the coalition government.

All five parliament parties agreed on July 8 for an early round of election and fixed the date on Sept. 28.
