British film star Jude Law and famous film maker Jeremy Gilley on Monday called upon Afghans to stop fighting and observe International Day of Peace on Sept. 21.
"Our message is want people to stop fighting. Of course, we do not want innocent people including children and women to suffer unnecessarily and unfairly," Jude Law told newsmen at a press conference here.
Accompanied by renowned film maker Jeremy Gilley, the 36-year-old British actor who played key role in the film "Peace one Day 2007" stressed that observing ceasefire on Sept. would be a success.
Film maker Gilley, who is the producer of Peace one Day documentary and the founder of Peace One Day, also urged Afghans and people around the world to promote the culture of peace and unity.
"If we are to move from the culture of war to a culture of peace, then we will have to unite round the most fundamental issue that humanity faces, the protection of each other and our environment and Sept. 21 is the starting point," the British film maker said.
The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution in 2001, marking Sept. 21 as the International Day of Peace and UN agencies around Afghanistan will be facilitating activities around the country as part of efforts to mark this year's Peace Day. Source:Xinhua
