A Swiss prosecutor said on Wednesday that he had dropped charges against a son of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and his wife for allegedly beating up two servants.
The case against Hannibal Gaddafi and his wife will be closed because the former servants have withdrawn their complaint, Geneva Chief Prosecutor Daniel Zappelli was quoted as saying by the Swissinfo news website.
He said the two former servants, a Moroccan and a Tunisian, had been compensated and given temporary visas to stay in Switzerland.
Hannibal Gaddafi and his wife were detained in a luxury Geneva hotel in July after the two servants complained of serious ill treatment.
After being questioned Hannibal and his wife were allowed free on bail and left the country.
But the case escalated into a diplomatic row, with Libya taking retaliatory measures, including arresting two Swiss nationals on alleged immigration violations.
The Swiss Foreign Ministry on Wednesday described the decision by the Geneva prosecutor as "a very important step" to resolving the affair, Swissinfo reported.
A spokesman said talks with Libya would continue until relations returned to the level they were before the crisis.
