Five militants were killed Thursday in a security operation in the Southern Russian republic of Dagestan, the Itar-Tass news agency reported Friday.
On Thursday, police and security forces of the republic conducted a counter-terrorist operation in the town of Khasavyurt, where the militants were blocked in a house. The militants refused to surrender and opened fire at the law enforcers.
All five militants, including a gang leader, were killed and two security officers were injured in the fighting, a spokesman of the interior ministry said.
