Visiting U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said here Friday that she is "satisfied" with the cooperation with the European Union (EU) over the Georgia-Russia conflict.
At a joint press conference after talks with her Portuguese counterpart Luis Amado, she said she was "satisfied" with the results achieved by the United States and the EU over the conflict between the two ex-Soviet states.
She expressed satisfaction with the EU's condemnation of Russia's recognition of the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
The United States and the EU have shown Russia that "we do not accept this type of action," she said, accusing Moscow of failing to meet obligations under an EU-brokered ceasefire deal.
Both Rice and Amado expected an EU mission to Russia to be difficult next week, but said they maintained confidence that French President Nicolas Sarkozy could make progress in securing full implementation of the peace agreement.
Sarkozy is set to head an EU delegation to Moscow Monday.
