Visiting Cypriot Foreign Minister Markos Kipryanou said here on Monday that the country wishes to widen economic exchanges with Cuba.
Kipryanou, who is on an official visit to Cuba, placed a floral wreath on Monday at the monument of Cuban National Hero Jose Martiat a ceremony in the Revolution Square in Havana.
Kipryanou told the press that Cyprus wants to reinforce economic ties with Cuba and he will discuss with his Cuban counterpart Felipe Perez Roque ways to realize that.
During a meeting with Ricardo Alarcon, president of the Cuban National Assembly, Kipryanou hailed the "good development of bilateral ties" and expressed his esteem for the Cuban people.
Alarcon briefed Kipryanou about Cuba's current situation and the country's efforts to recover from damages caused by the recent hurricanes. Both foreign ministers also discussed international issues of mutual concern.
Cyprus is among the countries that call for the lifting of U.S. sanctions against Cuba.
