EU development ministers focus on food supply security at informal meeting |

European Union (EU) development ministers gathered in Bordeaux Monday for an informal meeting to discuss topics ranging from food supply security to the bloc's aid to developing countries.
France, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the EU, said soaring food prices have hindered efforts to reduce poverty in some countries and the EU must provide a response to address the issue.
The European Commission has proposed mobilizing financial resources to support agricultural productivity in developing countries.
Considering the responsibilities they have to bear, some member states have been slow to reveal their stance on the proposal.
During the two-day meeting, ministers will also touch on the needs of developing countries in terms of adapting to climate change and the strengthening of health systems.
Agriculture experts from Africa have also been invited to attend the meeting to contribute to the ministers' discussions.
