A roadmap for Poland's euro adoption will be ready by the end of this month, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Tuesday.
Speaking at a press conference following the cabinet meeting, Tusk said the detailed timetable would be made public.
In September Tusk declared that his government would make every effort to end preparations for the euro accession by the middle of2011 so that the EU Commission could make its decision still in 2011.
Tusk said he had not hesitated a minute before authorizing Finance Minister Jacek Rostowski to support the proposed joint EU limit for bank deposit guarantees at 50,000 euros.
Rostowski said Tuesday the current world financial crisis has emphasized the need for Poland to be anchored in the euro zone.
"If there is one thing that we can do to ensure the stability of the Polish economy and banking system, it is exactly Poland's accession to the euro zone," Polish news agency PAP quoted him as telling a press conference.
The situation in world financial markets did not necessitate changes to the timetable of Poland's accession path, he added. "At present we do not envisage any change to the pace (of euro adoption)," he said.
