Macedonia's parliament adopted a resolution on Thursday, calling on the government to recognize Kosovo's independence, news reaching here from Skopje reported.
A total of 85 in the 120-seat parliament voted for the resolution submitted by ethnic Albanian legislators, while one voted against it. Another 16 abstained from casting their ballots.
The resolution recommended Macedonian government take all required activities to recognize Kosovo, and establish diplomatic relations with the breakaway province of Serbia.
Kosovo, a southern Serbian province where 90 percent of its 2 million people are ethnic Albanians, unilaterally declared independence in February. It has been recognized by more than 40 countries, but its independence is vehemently opposed by Serbia and Russia.
It was not immediately clear how Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski's government would respond to the resolution. But a local TV reported that the government might officially recognize Kosovo in coming hours or days.
