One person was killed and 39 others were injured Sunday in a massive highway pileup in northeastern France, local media reported.
The 28-vehicle collision, which occurred on a highway 20 km east of Metz, might be caused by poor visibility due to heavy fog, police were quoted as saying.
The dead was a 72-year-old man, the police said, adding that the injured have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
After the accident, more than 200 fire fighters and military police rushed to the scene to join rescue operations.
